ABOUT THE EARL MONROE SCHOOL

Fostering Academic Achievement

The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School is a charter, co-ed, tuition-free high school. With a total student body of 440 boys and girls, we seek to foster a unique, innovative, and hands-on learning environment.

Enrichment Programs

Preparing our students for future success goes beyond the classroom and basketball court. From financial support to social and professional guidance, our services ensure that every child has the tools they need to thrive.

One-on-One In-House Mentoring Program

Every Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School student will be matched with a private sector mentor. The program will be managed by a full-time Director and staff.

Career & College Guidance

Beginning in our second year, a full-time college and career counselor will be on-site to help guide students as they seek to secure internships and apply to college.

Summer Internship Program

Beginning in their third year, students will be placed in summer internships related to their academic interests.

Mental Health Services

Students and families will have access to a full-time psychologist and a team of licensed social workers.

Financial Support

Underserved students and families will be provided with additional support for shelter, clothing, transportation, and medical assistance.

Ben Jobe Scholarship Fund

Named after the legendary Black coach and educator, the Fund will provide college scholarship support to graduating seniors.

Anti-Gun Violence Program

With our historic campaign to feature the orange anti-gun violence emblem on all uniforms, the Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School will continue to lead advocacy and awareness efforts to help address this epidemic that has tragically affected the lives of so many of our students and their families.

Facilities

The Earl Monroe School is located in a temporary space at 1617 Parkview Ave. in the Bronx. We look forward to moving to our permanent location for the 2024-25 school year.

The gym at our temporary facility hosts our weekly town hall meetings, physical education classes, and our boys and girls basketball teams.

Our new, permanent facility will be fully wired and feature contemporary spaces built to promote an enriching and welcoming learning environment with several prominent areas designed pro bono by renowned Tony Award-winning architect David Rockwell.

The five-story, 67,000 square foot building will serve as a new anchor tenant in the South Bronx, helping spur community revitalization and making the Earl Monroe New Renaissance School a pivotal institution in the area. With a contemporary, sustainable design, outdoor space, and state-of-the-art amenities, including a full gymnasium, broadcast studio, student lounge and more, the building will be a testament to our commitment to our mission and our students.
